06/05 Cartier Foundation, Paris
Every summer the Fondation Cartier hosts Nomadic Nights, a series of weekly performances of all stripes, at their museum space in Paris. sosolimited kicked off the first show of the 2005 season with a three act audiovisual performance.
Curious how we approached a media event in which there was considerable interest among the people of France, they requested that we perform our 2004 presidential debate remix. We obliged with a few twists.
A reoccurring thread in our performance work is the realtime transformation of media events. We presented the performance in three acts, moving forward in time from the presidential debates to an NBA finals game recorded two days earlier to a live video feed of ourselves and the audience in the space. Showing three distinct types of media coverage - a political event, a sporting event, and an artistic performance - we contrasted the varying qualities and details of the footage. In the final chapter, soso became the press, turning their camera on the audience and themselves.
An original musical score was composed for the show and mixed live with the sounds of the media footage.
